Bob Broadstock, QH breeder, trainer, owner and President of the Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario Inc (QROOI). Broadstock also suns his own computer programming and consulting business.He and his wife Marie own a farm near Port Perry Ontario where they train racing stock and care for three broodmares. Their home-breds earned nearly $70,000 last year. Broadstock worked his way up through the ranks under the critical eye of owner/trainer Joe Tavares.“I am looking forward to the day when I can work on my house business full-time. I am hoping the Quarter Horse Racing Industry Development Plan, incorporating the slot agreement and the breeding program, will get me  there.”

I have  been working with horses for 44 yrs, and has been in the race related business for 24 yrs. I have been a director of the QROOI on and off since the 1990′s. With wife Joyce, we have a quarter horse breeding business and also race quarter horses . Our farm (Jem Farms) is located in Uxbridge on 160 acres with 5/8 mile track, hay and pasture.Future hopes: That the quarter horse race industry grows and prospers.

Along with my husband Hermann, I began racing Quarter Horses in 1979. Since then, I have been active in racing and breeding, importing quality mares from the U.S. and serving on several related committees to support and improve Quarter Horse racing in Ontario. My goals for this industry include maintaining our Ontario Bred Program and improving the quality of our horses to where they are competitive anywhere. As a veterinarian, I have a special interest in the health and welfare of our racehorses, as well as the pursuit of a fair and level, drug-free racing industry.

Steve’slove affair with horses began in 1967 at the age of 10 (barrel racing). He began training halter horses at the age of 19, and started racing quarter horses in 1978.  He was president of the Ontario Barrel Racing Association (“OBRA”) in 2002, and Vice President of the OBRA in 2003 and 2004 Steve currently operates a
small breeding farm and has experience rehabilitating horses from devastating injuries at the race track, allowing them to go on to new careers.

Renè Hunderup
René A. Hunderup, born in Aalborg, Denmark came to Canada in 1974; he and his wife Darlene own and operate Norse Ridge Farm – a racing and breeding facility comprising TBs and QHs. He is a past President of the QROOI and spearheaded the development of the QH Breeders’ Program. He sat on the AQHA Racing Committee and for almost a decade on the Marketing & Public Information Committee. René is a present Member of the AQHA Health & Welfare Committee and will soon retire from the International Committee; he is serving on the QH and TB & SB Advisory Board to the Executive Director of the ORC.

 

 


Brian Farrell

Brian Farrell is a QH breeder and owner since 1994, and currently a QROOI Director and a member of the Breeding Program Working Group. He is the Operations Manager for AGI Traffic  Technology Inc. a division of  Aecon Construction Group Inc. Brian, with his wife Lynn and his two children Gavin and Sydney manage 1,100
acres in Sunderland Ontario where they stand a stallion  and have a small QH broodmare band and Black Angus Cattle. The Farrells have twice owned the winner of the Rags to Riches and the Alex Memorial Championship, andin 2008 finished 2nd in the first Graded Stakes at Ajax Downs.

 

 


Greg Watson

Greg Watson returned to Quarter Horse racing in 2006 after being involved over 30 years ago. His excitement about the future, quality and direction of Quarter Horse racing in Ontario prompted his return. Greg and his wife Susan operate Full Circle Farm near Bethany where they have a select group of horses in
training and several broodmares, as well as a herd of purebred Black Angus cows and calves. He has achieved great success in just a few years culminating with Full Circle Racing’s horse Rockish being named the 2008 Horse of the Year in Ontario. In addition to this, Greg works at Brooks Feed in Port Perry servicing the local horse farms.
