The Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario Inc and its Board of Directors have put this page together to advise our membership of what is being done in the industry from a QROOI perspective and to provide details regarding the OHRIA (Ontario Horse Racing Industry Association) project plan and rollout. We would like to thank all of you for your tremendous support for the industry during these threatening times. The ‘Grassroots’ campaign is starting to have an effect on government and the media has begun to take our position and post important questions to the Liberal government.
The QROOI asks that you continue to write or call your local MPP’s and ask them to take a position on horse racing inOntario. Inform them about how a closure of the slot program would affect you and those around you. Contact the leaders of the Liberal, Conservative and New Democratic parties and especially the finance Minister Dwight Duncan. (we have listed a few key contacts for you to address below)
Request a face to face meeting with your local MPP so that you can be sure that they hear your point of view, the QROOI will be happy to provide a representative to accompany you. Please advise the QROOI Head Office of the meeting date and time. You can reach the office by phone at (905) 426-7050 or by email at qrooiheadoffice@gmail.com
Contact anyone that you do business with that may be affected by a downturn in the racing industry and have them do the same.
Keep the QROOI informed on what you are doing; send us a copy of the letters being sent and who they have been sent to. We are meeting with these officials on a regular basis and having a collection of letters that show support for our program can only be beneficial.
Join our Facebook group ‘STAND-UP For Ontario Horse Racing’ and invite everyone that would like to be informed to join this group. It currently has over 800 members and has been a place for getting information out and for discussion by all.
QROOI Action
We are committed to getting your voices heard and commit to representing the industry by meeting with all MPP’s that are willing to listen. We have been in contact with Joe Dickson MPP Ajax/Pickering and will continue to work with him to get our local message out. We have also contacted the government relations firm that worked with the QROOI last year in getting our funding model adjusted and will be working with them over the coming weeks….we are also working with OHRIA as part of the Ontario horse racing industry.
